Booking process
If you like the look of what I do we can catch up in person for ice cream or a drink, or chat over the phone/Zoom so that you can be sure you’re happy for me to follow you around for hours on your wedding day. If you really love my work feel free to book without meeting me in person first, lots of couples do. I’m nice, I promise! I take a $650 booking fee and have a wedding contract that can be signed online to seal the deal.
In the lead up
Once your date is locked in you can relax for a long while, but you’ll have my number and email so that you can get in touch if you need anything. A couple of months out from the big day I’ll get in touch with a 10min questionnaire that you can fill out online. It will cover the essential information and from there we will work on a photo/video schedule together. I love to catch up in person over a cheeky drink or ice cream before the wedding if you aren’t too busy, but it isn’t essential.
On the day
After the day
I’ll turn up, almost always early, and try to make people laugh and feel comfortable around me from the get go. For most of the day I’ll be moving around like an extra member of the wedding party, taking lots of candids and natural shots. If I see a beautiful moment or something is not quite right I might give some direction, like “can you turn towards the light here?” or “this is looking really good, can you just slow it down for me?” but otherwise I won’t interfere. During formalities I’ll cover lots of angles and capture all the important moments while staying out of the way of your guests. I like to get a group shot of you with all your guests if possible afterwards, this probably won’t be the most aesthetically pleasing shot but it gives me an opportunity to introduce myself to your guests so that they know who I am and what I’m doing. That way everyone feels far more relaxed around me and they’ll know that I’m there for them too.
When it comes to your official wedding portraits, I give more or less direction based on how comfortable you’re feeling in front of the camera. Some people are totally at ease, others feel awkward having their picture taken (“what do I usually do with my arms!?!?”) and so I’ll help them out. It totally depends on you, but I’ve never had a couple who I couldn’t get a good photo of, or any couples complain about having a crappy time during the portraits session even if they hate having their photo taken!
Couples who have booked me for wedding photography receive a gallery of preview photos within 48hrs of their wedding so that they have something to share with friends and family immediately. After that it generally takes about 3 weeks for me to finish the rest of the photos and send them all off via USB. Video clients will see their highlights video about 3 weeks after the wedding day and the USB is usually ready to post not long after that. You or your family and friends will be able to purchase fine art prints directly through your online gallery if you want to, and there’s no deadline on ordering albums if you decide you want one 6 months or 3 years after your wedding day. If you’d like to make your own I can recommend some stellar companies to DIY through.
